Melo-drama over. Now Knicks over-exposure

With Carmelo Anthony now a New York Knickerbocker, the Knicks have taken a step backwards in terms of this season. And possibly next season as well. This move was made so that the Knicks could be great in the future and take a solid run at the NBA title during the 2012-2013 season.
The current roster is good, not great with a very thin bench. A solid point guard with a knack to drop dimes with a jumper and a legit big man to complement Amar’e Stoudemire is needed. However, with a thin bottom half of the Eastern Conference, the Knicks will make the playoffs but that does not mean that they are a contender this year.
When the Miami Heat Big 3 came together, they had to learn how to play together and it took a few months to figure it out. With nearly 2/3 of the roster turned over and about 25 games left in the regular season, the Knicks do not have enough time to figure “it” out, but will make the first round of the playoffs a lot more interesting.
The NBA CBA is coming to an end and appears to be messier than the NFL’s current labor dispute. Some say that the NBA will be lucky if there is basketball next season. A topic that will be addressed in the new CBA will be the ease players have to join their friends and create super teams. At the rate that the league is going now, there will only be a few teams that matter and contraction will have to take place and the league will be in serious jeopardy.
There is a lot of talk that the Knicks will target Dwight Howard and Chris Paul with either a trade next season or during free agency after the 2011-2012 season. If the NBA moves to a NFL style “franchise tag,” small market teams such as Orlando and New Orleans will be able to hold onto their stars for an additional season or two.
We’ll discuss the NBA’s CBA season in more detail during upcoming The D League Show’s but for now I leave you with this. The Knicks are making the right moves and are finally headed in the right direction. Like the New York Yankees are great for baseball when they are playing well, the Knicks are great for basketball when they are a contender year in and year out.
Also, the NBA is in a serious financial dilemma.
